Leaving Phayao (พะเยา) and Taking the Long Way Home

I talked about the first part of my day in the last post and my stops between Phayao (พะเยา) and Chiang Kham (เชียงคำ). I usually don't split post in the middle of a day but decided I started my trip home from the town of Chiang Kham in Phayao province.

The ride from Chiang Kham to Pua was another one of the routes that was recommended on the YouTube page Thailand Top Riding Routes. Route 1048 was a route I wanted to take and was not sure what was the best way to go about riding it. When I was in the city of Nan I thought about going to Pua (ปัว) and spending the night and then riding this route in the other direction but with it being a holiday weekend the prices of the hotels seemed really high. When I looked at the prices at the end of the weekend on Sunday they were half the price and this is the reason I went to Phayao and then back to Nan.

I got rained in a bit on Route 1148 and did not stop and take many pictures but it was another fun ride.

The one place I wanted to stop in the town of Pua (ปัว) in Nan province was Wat Phuket (วัดภูเก็ต). The temple was really pretty but the amazing thing here were the views over rice fields and the mountains in the distance.

I thought about staying in Pua or maybe spending the night in the city of Nan again or even the city of Phrae but I always seem to get excited with the idea of heading home. I put in a bit more time on the bike and rode through to the town Den Chai (เด่นชัย) in Phrae province and checked into a hotel. I usually like to ride around 250 KM or 160 miles on a normal day but this day I put in over 400 KM or 250 miles.

I usually can find something to eat wherever I am in Thailand but could not find anything close to the hotel so my dinner was instance noodle and beer.

My following day I rode from Den Chai (เด่นชัย) in Phrae to the small town of Lan Sak (ลานสัก) in Uthai Thani (อุทัยธานี) province. I had started this trip with visiting a temple in Uthai Thani but a bit east of where I was stopping for the night. The start of this trip I wrote about in Heading to the Ghost Festival. The hotel I stayed at in Lan Sak I had also stayed in before when I visited Wat Tham Khao Wong (วัดถ้ำเขาวง อุทัยธานี)

I didn't ride as much distance as I did the day before only going about 350 KM or 220 miles but it was a good ride. I really enjoyed the ride on route 101 between Den Chai and Si Satchanalai which I also visited on this trip. This section of the trip was in a hilly or through mountains with good views and a nice easy curvy road with not a lot of traffic. This was not a route I had planned out just the way Google Maps took me. I didn't stop for any pictures on this ride.

My last day of this trip I rode from Lan Sak to Kanchanaburi. I had ridden between these two places when I had visited Wat Tham Khao Wong but on this day I think I missed a turn in the town of Ban Rai. Usually google sends me back to the originally planned route but for some reason it didn't on this day. I think I took a much longer route to get back home and I am not good at knowing where I am and just follow google maps so don't know what kind of distance I did on this day. I did remember I past a hotel called S Mountain View Resort so I think I was on Route 4031.

It was like a lot of this trip and turned out to be a really pretty ride through the mountains and I think I pasted 2 national parks on this ride. I had put a gas station in as my first stop on the ride and I was sure I would have enough fuel but with the missed turn I kept checking the fuel gauge and wondering if I still had enough but just as I started to worry I saw one of those vending machines gas pumps so stopped for a bit of fuel. I stopped at the planned gas station in Nong Prue (หนองปรือ) and filled the tank. I also used this stop to have a breakfast toastie and a cup of coffee and a brief conversation with an American that was living in Nong Prue.

From Nong Prue it took me a little less than an hour to get home. I did past by Carhenge on the way home.

I love traveling around but I also always love returning home. Thanks for reading along on my travels and this is the end until I am out playing tourist again.
