I started my day in Khon Kean with a desire of having Jok (โจ๊ก) or rice porridge for breakfast.
I found a place on Google maps and headed over. They seemed to be doing a brown broth with meat in it and then poured the jok over the top. This is something I have not seen before and had no idea how to order it. I just had the normal jok with an egg. I didn't find it as good as the jok I am use to and it did not include the porks balls I am use to having in jok. If I return to Khon Kean I will have to try the version will the broth.
I recall the temple
Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon (Wat Nong Wang) from the first time I visited Khon Kean years ago. I think it is a really appealing architecture.
I continued around the lake that the temple is next to and makes up
Bueng Kaen Nakhon Park.
I sat in the park for a while enjoying the view over the lake, reading a chapter of a book, and waiting for the rain that seemed to be coming.
A bit outside the city I visited Wat Pa Thamma Utthayan.
Wat Pa Thamma Utthayan is another one of what i call an amusement park temples. I am not Buddhist so probably just don't understand the religious significance of all these huge images. I still find them interesting and fun to walk around and see.
This is a short video I did at this site.
My last stop of the day was at the City Pillar Shrine or San Lak Muang.
I always have thoughts of exploring places nightlife but am just a boring old man. I usually end the day with a beer in my hotel room and fall asleep before the nightlife gets started. Still a good day in Khon Kean.
