Maruekhathayawan Palace

I decided to visit Cha Am beach in Phetchaburi and while there visited Marukhathayawan Palace. This was the the summer palace of King Rama VI's who reigned from 1910 to 1925.

The palace appears to me to be very simple for a royal palace. The palace is made up of about 3 teak buildings connected by long raised walkways.

I enjoyed visiting this palace but would not really recommend it unless you are in the area and looking for something to do for a hour or so. The setting along the beach and the way the palace is built I'm sure made it a great place for the king to escape the heat of Bangkok. The palace was not like the picture I have in my head of what a royal palace would look like but more of a place that I would not mind living in but a bit to large for me. I had never thought about it before but the the palace did not have squat toilets. The king must know what is important in life.

  1. Although quite proficient in the use of squat toilets, now...I DO NOT miss them ;)

    1. It seems to me that everyone that blogs about traveling has to write a post about squat toilets. I am not a fan of the squat toilets but at least as a man a lot of time there is no need to squat. The toilet is the first thing I look at if deciding to stay in a hotel. I have stayed in a number of places with only squats but just cut back on the number of days I will stay there.
