Ban Kham Mek Rocket Festival (บ้านคำแดง บุญบั้งไฟ)

I took yesterday as a lazy day and the only thing I really did was wash some clothes. Today is the last day that I plan to go to a rocket festival. The Yasoton City festival is over a week away due to a Thai holiday and local elections. I don't want to stick around for the week but am sure I will be back next year.

I headed out to Ban Kham Mek (บ้านคำแดง). This is another one that I went to last year and enjoyed. It didn't disappoint and was a great day of rockets.

I arrived and was parking my bike when a sort of preamble was going on right in front of where I parked. They sometimes proceed something special with a number of fireworks. I tried to get out my phone when I realized what was going on and sort of captured the only spinning rocket I have seen this year. I think this one was about 6 feet or 2 meters across. Following is the video I sort of caught.

The area is a large site with 2 large launch platforms and one for small rockets. I spent the first couple of hours sitting back in among the trees trying to stay out of the direct sun. I would try to time when a launch was going to happen and run out to see the launch and then retreat to the shade. Sometimes I got it right and others I only got a glimpse of the rocket as it soared to the heavens through the trees.

Following is the short I uploaded to YouTube.

Once the sun got to a lower point in the sky I moved in front of the platform in a sort of basen area and stayed in this area until the last rocket of the day.

After the last rocket I went a little bit down the main road to the stage that was set up. I think it only lasted for 2 songs after I arrived but it was a fun way to finish a great rocket festival trip for this year.

I am OK with getting wet but I really don't understand the mud pit thing.

More blogs about rockets next year.
