Khong Chiam (โขงเจียม)

I rode from Ubon Ratchathani to Khong Chiam (โขงเจียม) and stopped at Wat Phu Khao Kaeo (วัดภูเขาแก้ว) along the way.

I found it a pretty temple but not sure what the pig looking statues were.

I have been to Khong Jiam or Khong Chiam in the past and really enjoyed it so decided to visit again.

Once I got to Khong Chiam I found and checked into a hotel. I went to the local market and found some food and drinks before heading back the way I came to visit Wat Sirindhorn Wararam (วัดสิรินธรวรารามภูพร้าว).

Wat Sirindhorn Wararam is just outside of the town of Chong Mek and about a 30 minute ride from my hotel. I tried to arrive shortly before sunset so I could enjoy seeing the temple and all of the glory of the fluorescent paint after the sun went down.

First a couple pictures before the sun went down.

A few pictures with the glow in the dark paint.

I also uploaded a YouTube short while there with a song in Thai about an Angel and a Buffalo. I understand what the song is about from the English subtitles. The only word I understand is buffalo but think it is a Thai version of beauty and the beast.

I then had the 30 minute ride back to the hotel in the dark. I think it took me longer then that since I couldn't see and avoid the potholes without going rather slow.

I have had Sam Phan Bok (สามพันโบก) or 3,000 holes on my list of places to visit for a long time. It was the main reason for coming this far east in Thailand.

I think my expectations were just to high because I was disappointed with this site.

Even though I was a bit disappointed with 3 thousand holes it was a nice ride there and back. I rode up tp Wat Tham Khuha Sawan (วัดถ้ำคูหาสวรรค์) that has a nice view over the river and the town of Khong Chiam.

I spent the rest of the afternoon sitting at a small temple along the river looking at Two-Color Water. I have yet to see the two colors but it's said that the "Confluence of the Mekong & Mun rivers, known for their distinct deep blue & orange-brown shades."
