Hot and spicy

This photo has the following: Sticky Rice, Som Tom (Papaya Salad), Onions & Loofah (Baub-Liam), Watermelon, Nam Tok Mo (pork).

This is the only time I have ever eaten Loofah and it is also from the same plant as that thing you wash your back with. I was not that crazy about it but would be willing to give it another try in the future.

The Som Tom is sort of a regular but not something that I am to found of. My girlfriend could eat this with every meal and the version that she prefers has small crabs in the dish. I can eat a bit of this but it is very very hot and is not at all for the faint of heart.

The Nam Tok is also a very hot dish but one I am really found of. I have to eat sticky rice with this to be able to take the heat of the dish but I find it wonderful. I have read that the name also means waterfall but think this may be from when eating this the sweat from your forehead look like a waterfall.

  1. I've never eaten loofah before, not that I was aware of :) I just read a translated recipe for Nam Dtok Moo...no chilli in sight, which I find VERY hard to believe. My tolerence on the chillidometer has risen from 0 to 5 since we stayed in Thailand, 10 being a head implosion.

  2. This is also the only time that I know I have eaten loofah but a lot of the time I don't know what I am eating. I try and learn the names of the stuff I like and I have about 10 dishes that I can sort of order.

Well I like the heat so think I eat a lot of stuff in the 7 or 8 range on the chillidometer. I pride myself in eating something that a Thai does not want to sell me because they think it is to hot for a foreigner. Not sure I could eat any of without rice to take some of the heat away.
