Phayao (พะเยา)

I rode from Nan to Phayao (พะเยา) on the way that google maps said to go and had no problems and like most of my trips in Thailand I had no idea the numbers of the roads I traveled.

My first stop in Phayao was once again on the other side of the city and up on the top of a hill. I didn't find the buildings that impressive at Wat Analayothipyaram (วัดอนาลโยทิพยาราม) but the setting and what I would call gardens were really pretty.

The views out over towards the city of Phayao were nice up at this temple complex.

I did not do a lot more on this day other finding my hotel and getting some help from the cleaning lady to figure out how to open the key lock box to be able to get into my room. I found a market to get something to eat and sat and watched it rain for awhile.

I started the following day with visiting the Phayao City Pillar Shrine

I then rode to the waterfront of the lake and to the King Ngam Muang Monument

Across the street and in the lake was the Phayao Naga Statues

I then went to visit Wat Si Khom Kham (วัดศรีโคมคำ). I don't know if this temple is always this busy on a Saturday or maybe it was busier because of the 4 day Buddhist holiday weekend but seemed to have a lot of people at this temple.

I rode up another hill to Wat Phra That Chom Thong I think I maybe should have taken more pictures at this temple but only this one I like well enough to post.

The next morning I checked out of the hotel and rode about 50 KM or 30 miles north east of the city to Wiang Lo Ancient Ruins I don't think I would have made a point to stop here but it was on my route to my following destination so was interesting for a quick stop.

I stopped in the town of Chiang Kham (เชียงคำ) to visit Wat Nantaram (วัดนันตาราม). This is an attractive temple made of teak-wood in a Burmese style.

This temple was my last stop in Phayao and the furthest point to the north that I would travel on this trip. From here I traveled back east towards Nan again. I feel that from here on is part of my journey home so will talk about it in my next post.
